2025.05.12Setup cashback on new payment card after analysing T&Cs PDF with ChatGPT 4o.
2025.05.11Finally tested GroundWire/Twilio VoIP combo with a real call for cheap international landline calls. It works!
2025.05.10My automated invoice attachment extraction email filter retrieved a suspicious PDF. Upon opening, it displayed a blurred document with a foreground "click-me" button linking to an untrusted short URL. Added a to-do to implement ready-reckoner-style cyber hygiene heuristics.
2025.05.9Cancelled a recent investment subscription. I still rate the service, but it doesn't suit my style—too much hopping in and out.
2025.05.8Noticed a discrepancy in my official payroll slips and transfer amount. Corrected.
2025.05.7Finally received confirmation of a business credit card cancellation. That took 3 web emails to resolve.

Themes: only make commitments I will move heaven and earth to stick to. Make small, sustainable changes to what I eat. With the change in season (above 5C, less rain), get some bike rides in.

2025.04.02After a 20-year run-up to starting a monthly DCA habit, I'm finally taking advantage of the 'trade without commission' day offered by my main broker. ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Separately, I'm transferring domains from GoDaddy (18USD for dot com renewal!) to porkbun.
2025.04.01A new snack habit forming: dry roasted nuts high in protein, from the local store. Perfect for when out walking.

March

Themes: kill recurring subscriptions and reduce fees. If I'm not actively using it or getting value, it goes. Walk more.

2025.03.31I cancelled my podscan.fm subscription. Love the service, but I wasn't reviewing search hits. I will return if I build a content ingestion pipeline. Separately, I received and set up my Apple Watch SE, including hourly stand-ups (not the Agile kind ;-).
2025.03.30I set up a backup digital bank account for my eldest. After reviewing bank deposits, I transferred idle cash to higher-interest-bearing accounts or funds, leaving modest amounts available.
2025.03.29After reviewing the fees-heavy terms and conditions of my local bank account, I devised some workarounds to permanently reduce banking fees.
2025.03.28I updated my low-end, yet surprisingly speedy idle VPS in the UK that runs Alpine Linux. The host has undergone multiple upgrades - it's like an interest-bearing VPS, but for just £1 per month :-O
2025.03.27I reverted to the free Ahrefs subscription, saving $29 per month on mostly unused features. I will reactivate it for targeted one-month periods for focused improvements to the website.
2025.03.26Fixed the Ahrefs crawling schedule for my main site. Scheduled brokerage statement reviews
2025.03.25Set up remote Windows KVM with EPYC™ 9634 x 8 (dedicated), 16GB ECC RAM, 512GB SSD with BitLocker drives for web app security assessments. Fantastic performance and value for 14EUR per month (reverse VAT).
2025.03.24Walked both ways to the office. It's uphill on the way back...
2025.03.23Set up Fluxbox app on iOS for offline listening of MP3 files synced in iCloud folder
2025.03.22Cancelled YouTube Premium Family subscription, switched to Brave Browser for ad-free experience (don’t want/need other YT Premium features)
2025.03.21Registered smallw.in and set up the Carrd.co template

When I feel paralyzed by fear, I do this:1. Write down my specific fear
2. Ask "what's the worst that could happen?"
3. Ask "could I survive that?"
4. Take ONE small action today
I'd rather be the optimist who tried than the pessimist who was right but built nothing.
